My swim coach (a national masters champ and former star cross country runner) says kicking will help my running. I know my running does not always help my kicking, that's for sure. This morning in Masters swimming the workout was kick-focused, which exposed my still fatigued legs from my long run on Sunday and spin yesterday. Some folks were swimming in old shoes. I forgot mine, so instead I kicked hard with fins and board 8 X 50 on :45. Tough interval for me, and I was aching, but I did manage to pick the last few back up and make the interval. Then a little later we swam 6 X 100 on 3 minutes, descend by 3s, all overkick (slow arms, fast legs). Coach Jen egged me on for the last one: "I want to see your feet on top of the water!" So I really pushed it. A lot of kicking for a triathlete who tries to save his legs when racing. But I do think my kick is slowly getting stronger and I will be less likely to cramp in the water, on the run and on the bike.
