Road intervals

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2006

Last night we ran road intervals. The rain let up and the temperatures, while falling, had not yet hit freezing. A perfect night for running in the Chicago suburbs! (Well, at least OK for February...) Seven of us from JSRC (Jim Sprivey Running Club) showed at the parking lot next to the Wheaton College Track. The running path would have been too wet and it was not a night for the track, so we hit the roads, with a 16 minute warm-up on our winter course, the faster runners holding back and talking, glad to have Paul post knee surgery back with us. We stretched at the end of the warm-up, the faster and the slower groups deciding how to convert the track workout distances to road times. We older guys opted to even out the intervals; we ran 5 X 2 mintues with 2 minutes easy in between (essentially 400s with a 200 recovery), except that the recoveries varied in time based on where street lights were, traffic delays and more. Buddy Karl was my partner as is the case when he runs with us; we push each other. My plantar fascitus was bothering me, but I held with him most of the time, enjoying redlining my legs and heart, though on the fourth interval he really got away from me. It was a good set for winter, with my heart rate average 143 and max 173. Then we warmed down, cruising back to the lot, for a run of 48.54, maybe 4.8 miles.
